Which Bars Have Stood the Test of Time?

Recommended Posts

I came here in 2009 (which isn't even that long ago) and I am trying to think of which bars are still in business today.

I can't think of many. So many old haunts gone. They seems to change so often. I assume they just go out of business.

Which bars (or other businesses) can you think of that have lasted over the decades?

Let's say pre 2010, at least.

But I am sure some old hands can name a few from the the 90s, 80s, and before.

Meet The World opened in 2002 I believe.

Good one 👍

Thank god they are still holding on.

Patpong is heartbreaking.

- Star of Light, gone

- Mike's Place, gone

- Rose Bar, gone

- Madrid, gone

- Kangaroo Club, gone

- Kob's Place, gone

What else?

I'm kicking myself for never going into Kangaroo Bar when it was still open. Anyone have stories from that place? At least I got to experience SOL.

From my experience SOL was much better then Kangaroo, so I  think you don't miss anything. But for people which wasn't in SOL, they miss something 🙂

I will always have a soft spot for Finnegans Irish bar on Soi 4. I first went there in January 2008 at the end of my first solo trip to Thailand.  It was a great laugh with nice customers and staff. It was the main reason why i returned to Thailand 3 months later.  Didnt remain that why though as customers got scare and the owners and staff got jaded. I always popped in for a pint on returning trips to reminisce about the good times but the mamasan had taken ownership and introduced bar fines and lady drinks. A complete 180 on what was the attraction of the original bar.

I would pop into Chequers now on my rare return trips. Kinda has the same vibe as the old Finnegans.

Also would have went to Bangkok Beats on Soi 7.

Should probably take Chequers off this list. It's up for sale.

SOL was much better, if smaller. Kangaroo was like a regular bar, decent decorations and chairs and stuff. But there were always more and better girls at SOL.

Kangaroo was upstairs with a guy watching the door who rang a bell to let them know someone was coming. There was a TV and sometimes it would play Creampie Thais porn LOL

Rose was kind of the same way, with even older women. But I used to get off on the old granny mama watching me get sucked off out of the corner of her eye
