Now need to show your passport to top up your rabbit card

This is new right? Have never been asked to show my passport or any ID before but this time they said I couldn’t top up my rabbit card without showing my passport.

 

Of course I didn’t have it on me as I don’t like carrying it around so I had to go back to the hotel to get then go back to the BTS station to top up my card then go back to the hotel again to drop off the passport (as I don’t like carrying it around) and finally head back to the BTS again!

 

Such a great use of my time....!

Is it new?.... Yes and no, been around about 6 or more months now.

In April when I was there I was never asked though at Asoke or Siam station which surprised me.

 

Everyone with a Rabbit card is meant to register it against their ID card / Passport.

When I read about it I thought it was a once off registration and then top up without needing to produce the ID or Passport again but I think it is meant to be every time.

I think it became a regular thing after the recent explosions but not sure about that

Yrs, it's just a one-off thing in order to register your card under your ID. Once and done. I just showed a copy of my passport from my phone.

It has been in place for about 6 months now, only lots of places don’t bother to get you to do it. You only need to register your card once though.

Ah I see thanks. Yes I’ve topped us several times in the last 6 months but have never been asked until now. At least it sounds like a one off.

I always carry a laminated copy of my passport and that usually works when you need to present id. Do love the convenience of the rabbit card.
