  1. Thanks for doing the prequalification on this new hotel! It looks like a real winner in terms of location/cost in the midrange price target. How was the bedding quality, the one reason i don't like to stay at GCP21 is the bed is too hard for me to get a good nights sleep. The room does seem a bit small but with the T21 across the way theres a nice place to hang out. How was the pool area and were there any other good spots in the hotel to just lounge around in. The big resort area of GCP21 is one of its strongest suits.
  2. Thanks for the store recommendations i will be certain to have a look. I know the grey market equipment comes with the risk but if i can save 20% i can live with that, although it doesn't seem likely in BKK. I checked prices in Japan and with the crazy conversion ratio and the VAT tax exemptions i think i can make that work. In the US at least for Sony they go through 3rd party repair places. I've found that the lens are pretty reliable so i'm not too concerned and since most repairs would be made by 3rd party anyways, they are willing to work on the grey market items.
  3. Thanks for the update on Landmark, it was my go to hotel my last few trips. Too bad the basement is closed that was a cool pub to hang out in. Do they still let you bypass the ID check for the lady for the night?
  4. Anyone know of a good trustworthy high end camera store in BKK. I'm thinking with the good exchange rate that an expensive lens or camera might be cheaper just due to that. I know I saw a camera store Central World mall last time i was there but i also got the impression i would be overpaying there. Any of the photographers here have a go to place?
  5. Not in the food court area there is a Tim Ho Wan Dim sum located just after the long escalator if i recall correctly. This place has the best baked BBQ pork bun. They are starting to open branches around the world highly recommended.
  6. I have stayed at the GCP several times and have enjoyed my stay. I find the beds to be too hard but the amenities and location are top notch. The back entrance from the terminal 21 mall is good but closes with the so any late night guests would not be able to take advantage of.
  7. I stayed at both the Westin and Sofitel back in 2019 and by far preferred the Sofitel. The Sofitel had by far the nice and more modern room layout, where as the Westin had a dated feel. The Bedding in the Sofitel was some of the best i have ever slept in. The roof top bar was nicer and had more of a panoramic view. The pool was overall very nice but i don't recall the gym quality/size. Sofitel is actually very close to the Thermae cafe as an added bonus The Westin is in a slightly closer location to Terminal 21 and the BTS line. If you stay on the train facing side of the hotel you can hear the train as it goes by, if you are a light sleeper this may bother you. My biggest complaint about the Westin is the odd lobby layout with a reception area on the ground floor and then the lobby on the 7th. This adds an extra elevator trip every time you leave. The elevators on the 7th floor are not even close together so you have to walk across the lobby floor plan so add about 5min to exiting the hotel which can add up. I also stayed at the Terminal 21 and the facilities are top notch, great infinity pool and amazing gym/spa/sauna, best i've seen in Bangkok. The big downside is the bed is rock hard and the giant windows don't fully blackout so you get sun in the morning which is a major annoyance if you want to sleep in. The view from the floor to ceiling window is amazing. In the standard room there is no real desk, more like a small side table and regular chair (not office chair) so if you have to work it could be an issue. Location is great for easy access to the mall/food court. The room actually has a washing machine and stove too. I am on the fence about this hotel, great location and best facilities but a mediocre room. The Landmark is a good alternative and usually at a slightly lower price point. Good location near Nana and the BTS station. Pool was ok, i don't recall the gym quality. The rooms do feel dated but overall nice and clean. Good bedding but not as nice as Sofitel. Planning my next trip for November and am leaning towards Sofitel. But any of these options are very nice and i will probably pick based on price as it gets closer to booking time.
  8. Again really great review Adore! Similar question regarding ID check when bringing a girl over, do they hold ID and if so is it a 21+ check?
  9. Thanks for the hotel review, i am considering this and the Center Point 21. Did you have to check in the girls ID when entering and if so was it a 21+ age check?
